A compelling new theatre production, Bindweed, is coming to Ilkley Playhouse this spring.
Produced by Ilkley based company Rise & Howl and written by Martha Loader, the award-winning Bindweed follows four men convicted of domestic abuse offences who meet each week to undergo a perpetrator programme. But as Jen, the new group facilitator, starts to make progress with the men inside the room, life outside begins to buckle.
A shattering and darkly funny play about responsibility and rehabilitation, Bindweed looks at what can be done to tackle abuse at its root. Told with honesty and moments of unexpected humour, Bindweed has been praised for its deeply human storytelling and its ability to sit with difficult truths.
This regional tour, which comes to Ilkley on 10 & 11 April, brings the play directly to local audiences, championing accessible, high-quality theatre made by artists rooted in the community.
Rise & Howl, a not for profit collective, was founded by Paula Boyle & Kate Maddison-Greenwell. Their story began on stage in The Incident Room at Ilkley Playhouse. Surrounded by local talent, decided they wanted to put on plays that not only entertain, but unashamedly open conversations around the challenges of being human in our world.

The tour, directed by Paul Chewins, reflects Rise & Howl Collective’s commitment to sharing bold, thoughtful theatre beyond traditional spaces, connecting audiences with stories that feel close to home.
