The annual Ben Rhydding Golf Scramble provided a dramatic finish this week, with the competition decided by a putting contest after two teams finished level following nine holes.
The popular event brings together members and friends of Ilkley Round Table and 41 Club for an evening of friendly competition at Ben Rhydding Golf Course.
Teams took on the nine-hole scramble, with the format designed to put teamwork and golfing ability to the test.
This year's competition could not be separated after the ninth hole, leaving the teams to settle the result on the putting green.
David Shaw MBE represented his team in the deciding contest against Ben Cackett.
With the pressure on and the year's bragging rights at stake, David held his nerve to beat Ben and secure victory for his team.
The winning team was made up of captain Richard Bradley, David Shaw MBE, Pete Haigh and Tom Thompson.
David Shaw MBE said:
“It was a fantastic evening and a really enjoyable competition.
"After nine holes with the scores level, I don’t think anyone expected it to come down to a putting contest quite like that.
“There was definitely a bit of pressure when I stepped up, particularly with everyone watching, so I was very pleased to hold my nerve and get the win for the team.
“Full credit to Ben as well, it was a great contest and he certainly made me work for it.
"It’s all about having a bit of fun, enjoying the golf and spending time with friends, but I’m not going to pretend I wasn’t delighted to come away with the victory!”
The annual scramble also provides an opportunity for current and former members of Ilkley Round Table and 41 Club to get together away from their usual activities.
An Ilkley Round Table spokesperson said the golf scramble was “always one of the highlights of the year”.
“It’s a great opportunity to get everyone together, enjoy a bit of friendly rivalry and, for a few hours, pretend that we’re all much better golfers than we actually are!”

The scramble is designed to be both competitive and sociable, with players working together as teams rather than relying solely on individual performances.
Organisers said the format helps capture the camaraderie at the heart of both Ilkley Round Table and 41 Club, while still providing plenty of opportunity for friendly rivalry.
The organisers thanked Ben Rhydding Golf Course for hosting the event, as well as everyone who took part in making the evening a success.
