Ilkley residents are invited to try writing to support their wellbeing in 2026 at a new monthly workshop at Alpkit Ilkley.
The first writing for wellbeing session takes place on Tuesday 27 January at 6.30 to 7.30pm, with future workshops on the last Tuesday of every month.
The monthly sessions are for anyone interested in exploring writing as a creative health practice, including absolute beginners with no previous writing experience. Combining therapeutic and creative writing approaches, participants respond to a new theme each month through a series of guided exercises designed to encourage self-reflection, self-expression and creativity.
Workshop facilitator and Ben Rhydding resident, Faye Knowles, said:
“Writing is widely recognised as a creative approach with associated wellbeing benefits. Transforming thoughts and feelings into written words is not only cathartic but can help us learn about ourselves and our experiences, gain new perspectives, savour positive moments and navigate challenging times. I am incredibly passionate about this potential.
“With a background in creative writing and psychology, I have developed my workshops based on therapeutic writing research, positive psychology theory and my own writing practice. I am committed to creating supportive spaces where people can come together and engage in a positive, fun activity without judgement. I hope my new monthly sessions at Alpkit Ilkley encourage the local community to explore what writing can do for them.”
The workshop costs £9, to book or find out more visit Eventbrite.
