The speed limit on a stretch of Moor Road is set to be increased Bradford Council has announced today.
The council outlined plans to increase the speed limit on a stretch of Moor Road between Ilkley and Burley Woodhead in June 2025 and started a consultation. Today, the order has been published, which comes into force tomorrow, 23 January 2026:
1. 30mph speed limit along two sections, the first from its start from Hangingstone Road for 60m in a south easterly direction, and the second from a point 85m south west of its junction with Stead Lane for 815m in a north westerly direction; and
2. 40mph from a point 900m north west of its junction with Stead Lane to a point 60m south east of its start from Hangingstone Road.
Back in June a Bradford Council spokesperson said:
“The decision to increase the speed limit on this road by 10mph hasn’t been take lightly and we know this may seem like an unusual step to take but can assure everyone it is being done with advice from the police and experienced Highways engineers.
"We remain committed to ensuring speed limits are safe, consistent, and appropriate for all road users and the new 40mph will still be 10mph lower than it was originally. While this change will result in varying speed limits along the route, it reflects a balanced approach based on evidence, national policy, and professional judgement.”
Changes had previously been made to the section of the road in 2023 following the death of a 25-year-old male driver, such as reducing the speed limit from 50mph to 30mph.
