The Met Office has issued three weather warnings covering our area this weekend.
A yellow warning of ice will be in place from 4pm today [Friday] until 10am on Saturday.
A yellow warning for snow and ice will be in place from 12 noon on Saturday until 23:59 on Sunday.
An amber warning for snow will be in place from 9pm on Saturday until 23:59 on Sunday.
What to Expect:
- Significant snow accumulation, especially over high ground (up to 40cm in places).
- Blizzard conditions and hazardous driving, particularly on the Pennines and North York Moors.
- Travel disruption (road, rail, and air), power outages, and rural areas may become cut off.
- Slippery conditions as snow transitions to a wintry mix of sleet/rain on Sunday, creating icy patches.
Safety Advice:
- Avoid unnecessary travel during heavy snow or icy conditions.
- Check for travel updates before setting off.
- Prepare for power cuts – keep torches and essential supplies ready.
- Wear appropriate footwear to prevent slips and falls.
