It was on 13th January 1986 that David Lishman opened the doors to David M Lishman and the journey began.
40 years on, and now multi awarding winning 'Lishman's of Ilkley'.
Taking to Facebook to congratulate David, the Lishman's team said:
"Back in 1986, the shop was small, he worked alone, served just 12 customers on day one… and took £28.
"Fast forward 40 years and so much has changed. The shop has grown, the business has grown, and today we’re proud to have a team of over 18 behind the counter.
"Congratulations, David, on everything you’ve built over the past four decades. And thank you to every loyal customer who has supported us along the way — some of you have been with us from the very beginning."
David Lishman remains amongst the best-known names in British butchery and Lishman's of Ilkley is one of the best-known butchers in both county and country.

The Leeds Road premises had a major refurbishment in 2022. Daughter Emma, pictured above with David, joined her father in the business in 2015 and became a partner in 2018.
