The stark reality of what’s happening to the climate and natural world is the focus of a film to be shown to local VIPs and residents in Ilkley next week.
This public event, known as the People’s Emergency Briefing, is to be held at Ilkley Grammar School on the evening of Friday 15 May and is one of hundreds scheduled across the country over coming months.
It features warnings from scientists and other experts about the severe potential consequences of these crises including food shortages and civil unrest. It comes amid growing frustration about the lack of attention being paid to these urgent threats to every aspect of our lives.
Confirmed attendees include Robbie Moore MP, local councillors, senior staff from local schools, businesses, community groups, sports groups, and faith leaders.
The event builds on a National Emergency Briefing, held last November in Westminster, where hundreds of MPs, business leaders, faith leaders and celebrities were presented with the latest evidence about the threats facing our country from environmental breakdown, for example in national security, food security, and extreme weather events, together with what are often win-win solutions for climate, nature and the economy.
The focus of the evening will be a compelling, sometimes shocking, but also hopeful film based on the Westminster briefing with a Gogglebox-like format featuring reactions from celebrities and members of the public.

There will be an opportunity for open discussion on topics raised and actions needed.

The event is facilitated by Climate Action Ilkley and supported by groups including Ilkley Community Network, Churches Together Ilkley, Wharfedale Naturalists, Friends of Ilkley Moor, the U3A Environment Group, and the Clean River Group.
