A free community screening of The People’s Emergency Briefing will take place at St. John’s Church, Ben Rhydding, on Sunday 26th July at 6.30pm, followed by a discussion to explore the climate and nature crisis.
The latest local screening is part of a growing UK-wide programme of events designed to help ensure that both the public and decision-makers are informed about the climate and nature crisis and conversations can take place to explore how the risks can be addressed.
The 50-minute public film, introduced by broadcaster and environmental campaigner Chris Packham, features leading scientists and experts who spoke at the National Emergency Briefing in Westminster Central Hall last November. More than 1,200 MPs, peers and leaders from business, culture, faith, sport and the media attended the briefing which set out the implications of climate and nature breakdown for food security, public health, infrastructure, the economy and national security. The briefing also included evidence-based actions that could reduce the UK’s exposure to these climate and nature risks.
A spokesperson for St. John’s Church said:
“Climate change is having a very real impact in the UK and we’ve just experienced the hottest June on record. Many schools were forced to close, travel was disrupted, workers sweltered, appointments and events had to be cancelled, and water restrictions were introduced in parts of the country. Nature has been in decline for decades, and crop yields have been impacted by extreme weather.
"As part of St. John’s environment and carbon net zero activities, we are very pleased to screen the People’s Emergency Briefing film to allow attendees to better understand the climate and nature crisis, and explore what needs to be done locally and nationally. We hope the film will inform and connect our community when we discuss our reactions and the actions we can take. All welcome.”
