Free one-hour parking will be scrapped on all but three streets in Ilkley as Bradford Council's Executive committee approve 'amended' parking plans.
Following the original plans being published, the council received 663 objections and a petition with 1,481 signatures, objecting to the removal of one hour free street parking, an extension to charging to 8pm and charging on bank holidays.
Officers developed an 'alternative proposal' to retain one-hour free at 161 bays on New Brook Street, Kings Road, and Cowpasture Road.
Bradford Council’s Executive meeting voted on these plans today, which were approved despite appeals from two district councillors.
Cllr Ros Brown ask for bays in South Hawsworth Street and Station Road to be left with the hour free, so those with mobility issues could easily get a prescription from Boots or visit the Post Office.
Cllr Andrew Loy who spoke at the meeting commented on Facebook:
"I’ve just spoken at Bradford Council’s Executive meeting to urge them to withdraw their parking charge proposals for Ilkley - but they didn’t listen and are pressing ahead with their ‘compromise’."
"This isn’t the end - we will continue to fight for Ilkley’s interests and call on the Council to backtrack on this decision."
