Author to talk about his newly-published memoir, Ingrained

Callum Robinson will talk about his book Ingrained on 25th September at The Grove Bookshop

Author to visit The Grove Bookshop in Ilkley this month to talk about his memoir Ingrained: The Making of a Craftsman.

Callum Robinson is the son of a Master Woodworker and spent his childhood absorbing craft lessons in his father's rural workshop. As an adult his passion for creating bespoke wooden objects led him to forge his own business, chasing ambitious, increasingly commercial projects, until one devastating loss threatened to bring it all crashing down.

Forced to confront his disconnection from his roots, and with his family and crew's livelihoods at stake, he followed his heart back to the workshop, to handcrafting beautiful things for people who will love them and, in time, pass them on to the next generation.

Blending memoir and nature writing at its finest, Ingrained is an uplifting meditation on the joys and challenges of working with your hands, on legacy, community, and the power of the natural world.

Shortlisted for the prestigious Wainwright Prize for nature writing, it is a richly satisfying read.

He spoke with such warmth and honesty about his love for working with wood, his relationship with his father and the joy he takes from creating beautiful things, that we were desperate to get him to come for an event. And while we spoke, his partner Marisa stood outside making an exquisite sketch of our shopfront.”
