Ilkley Cricket Club is marking its 175th Anniversary with a week long festival of cricket.
From 3rd - 9th August, Ilkley CC will be celebrating nearly two centuries of cricket in the town.
Founded in 1850, Ilkley CC has been a pillar of the local community throughout its history. With a proud legacy of players, volunteers and families, the club has seen it all over its history. From surviving financial hardship in the 1870's, winning their first league title in 1939, and purchasing its current Denton Road ground in 1991, the club has grown through the generations with "legends" like Michael Clegg, at its heart.
To celebrate the past, present and future, the club will showcase matches every day with a variety of different cricket formats with a Festival of Cricket which kicks off on Sunday with Ilkley CC hosting the Waddilove Cup Final.
On Monday, Ilkley Rugby Club head across the road in a fun short format game with a spectator BBQ from 6pm. Tuesday is one for the cricketing purists, as the MCC, Marylebone Cricket Club, test an Ilkley XI from 11am.
Wednesday evening welcomes the local overseas players in our region, who will be putting on a spectacle with a game of The Hundred, a fast, explosive and innovate cricket. Coupled with a Loaded Nachos Van, live commentary, and music from Harry Arnison from 6pm. Fast forward to the future of the game, the Ilkley Ladies team play in a tri series tournament with local clubs, from Thursday 6pm and on Friday, the best young cricketing talent battle it out on Friday in the "Lido derby" where Ilkley CC play Olicanian CC.
Terry Pattinson, Ilkley CC Chairman, was excited the upcoming week when we spoke to him:
"This is a unique moment in our history, we're proud of our roots, where we are today, but we're also looking to the future and growing the local game by keeping cricket at the heart of our community for another 175 years."
