Tributes have been paid to Gary Holmes, a popular performer who entertained audiences at Ilkley’s King’s Hall for many years.
Ilkley Community Network said it was “deeply saddened” to hear of Gary’s sudden death, describing him as a talented performer who brought laughter, joy and entertainment to the town. Gary appeared in numerous productions at the King’s Hall and became a familiar face to local audiences through his involvement in amateur theatre. Ilkley Community Network said: “Gary was a wonderfully talented performer, and we’re sure many Ilkley residents will have fond memories of seeing him take to the stage in the many different productions he was part of. “His warmth, infectious enthusiasm and unmistakable sense of fun made him a real favourite with audiences, and he had a special gift for bringing people together through theatre.” Away from the stage, Gary was a retired firefighter who had spent many years serving his community. He was also a passionate supporter of amateur theatre, giving his time to the performing arts through NODA and a number of local groups. Ilkley Community Network added: “Our thoughts are with Gary’s wife Sally, his daughters, his wider family and all his friends and fellow performers at this incredibly difficult time. “Thank you, Gary, for all the wonderful memories and the laughter you brought to Ilkley over the years. “You’ll be very much missed, but never forgotten. "Rest in peace, Gary.”
