Ilkley Pride & Diversity Group welcomed a large and enthusiastic gathering of local businesses, community organisations, and civic leaders on Thursday evening for its annual Supporters Launch Event, held at The Ticket Office in Ilkley.
The event marked the beginning of the group’s 2026 programme and reflected the continuing growth of community support for diversity and inclusion initiatives across the town.
A wide range of local representatives attended, dignitaries such as Jane Gibson, Mayor of Ilkley as well as representatives from local businesses, community groups and project partners. The atmosphere was one of positivity, collaboration, and shared purpose as guests came together to celebrate the group’s achievements and look ahead to the year’s plans.
Attendees heard inspiring speeches from David Shaw MBE, Chair of Ilkley Pride & Diversity Group; Becky Hutchinson, Chief Executive of the Bradford-based LGBTQ+ charity Equity Partnership; and Isabel Ashman, parent and LGBTQ+ advocate.
-
David Shaw MBE highlighted the significant progress the group has made over the past year, acknowledging the essential role supporters play in enabling Pride activities to flourish.
-
Becky Hutchinson emphasised the importance of regional partnerships and the need for continued visibility, support, and advocacy for LGBTQ+ people across West Yorkshire.
-
Isabel Ashman spoke movingly about the impact Pride has on individuals and families, and the importance of events that strengthen connection and belonging.
In addition to celebrating ongoing support, the event also served to build excitement for Ilkley Pride’s flagship Pride Celebration Day, which will take place on Saturday 27 June 2026. This year’s celebration promises to be the group’s most ambitious yet, offering a full day of entertainment, live performances, family-friendly activities, community stalls, and opportunities for residents, allies, and visitors to come together in a joyful celebration of diversity before the party transitions to The Yard for a night of drag performance in the evening. The Pride Celebration Day is a cornerstone of the town’s summer calendar, attracting people of all ages and backgrounds and offering a safe, welcoming, and vibrant space for everyone to enjoy. The group is encouraging local organisations to get involved early and help make the 2026 event the biggest, brightest, and most inclusive yet.
Speaking after the event, David Shaw MBE said:
“Ilkley Pride is built on partnership and community spirit. The generosity, enthusiasm, and commitment shown by our supporters not only make Pride possible, but help strengthen Ilkley as a place where everyone feels valued and included. We’re excited for the year ahead, and especially for our Pride Celebration Day in June, which promises to be a fantastic event for the whole town. In the meantime we’ve plenty going on with LGBT+ History Month in February, and our other projects and events.”
Ilkley Pride & Diversity Group extends its thanks to all supporters, partners, volunteers, and attendees who contributed to the success of the launch. With preparations now underway, the group looks forward to another year of fostering inclusivity, celebrating diversity, and bringing the community together.
