Get ready for a delectable treat as Upstagers brings Roald Dahl's beloved classic "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" to life on stage. This magical musical production will enchant audiences of all ages at The King's Hall in Ilkley from 10th to 13th July 2024.
Step into a world of pure imagination as Charlie Bucket, the young dreamer from a humble background, wins a golden ticket to tour the mysterious chocolate factory of the eccentric Willy Wonka. Alongside four other lucky children, Charlie embarks on an extraordinary adventure filled with Oompa-Loompas, incredible inventions, and mouth-watering confections.
Co-director Andrew Hewitt comments:
"We're thrilled to bring this timeless story to our local community. The musical captures all the whimsy and wonder of Roald Dahl's original tale, with catchy songs and stunning visuals that will delight both children and adults alike."
The production features a talented cast of local performers, including 12-year-old Kitty Moore as Charlie Bucket and slightly older Mike Riley as the enigmatic Willy Wonka. The Golden Ticket Winner characters are wonderfully grotesque in true Dahl fashion and the ensemble is rounded out by a chorus of Oompa-Loompas, promising to deliver unforgettable musical numbers that will have the audience tapping their feet and humming along. Audiences can expect to be transported to a world of pure imagination with elaborate set designs, dazzling costumes, and special effects that bring Wonka's fantastical factory to life. From the chocolate river to the glass elevator, every iconic moment from the beloved story will be recreated on stage with creativity and flair.
"We've put our heart and soul into this production,"
says co-director John Clark
"The dance numbers are energetic, playful, and capture the magic of Wonka's world. We can't wait for our audiences to experience the joy and wonder that we hope we’ve created."
The musical score, featuring songs from the original film such as "Pure Imagination" and "The Candy Man," along with new compositions, promises to be a auditory delight. Musical director Phil Walsh has put together a 12 strong orchestra to showcase a score that is infectious, from tender ballads to show-stopping ensemble pieces, there's something for everyone to enjoy.

This production of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" is not just entertainment; it's an opportunity for the community to come together and support local arts. All proceeds from the show will go towards funding future productions and youth theatre classes and education in the Ilkley area.
Upstagers Trustee and principal of the Upstagers Academy, Bethany Gregory says:
