Plans to improve toilet facilities in Ilkley Library have been revealed by Bradford Council.
The Council has applied for Listed Building Consent to make alterations to the town’s Grade II-listed library building.
The authority says the current toilet facilities are “inadequate” and “do not provide a necessary service to all users of the library”.
The plans would alter the toilets to make them more accessible to disabled users.
A small kitchenette would also be created to the rear of the building.
The application says: “The existing toilet facilities, confined into a rather limited, restricted area of the building at the rear of the library have been found to be inadequate and, essentially, do not provide necessary service to all users of the library at the ground floor level; and so, an alternative solution deemed necessary to correct the situation.
“The proposed removal of an internal partition wall in the toilet area will serve mainly to turn an existing single toilet facility into one of unisex disabled one – thereby providing access to the library to all users, regardless of personal condition.”
