Two of Ilkley's biggest summer events are coming up, the Ilkley Cycle Races on Friday 3rd July and the Ilkley Half Marathon on Sunday 12th July, and organisers are calling on local people to help make them happen.
Both events are organised by local charities and powered by volunteers, with dozens of people needed to help welcome competitors, support spectators and keep everything running smoothly on the day.
Together, the events bring thousands of people into Ilkley, creating a fantastic atmosphere in the town and providing a boost for local businesses, cafés, shops and restaurants.
Tom Harris, from the Ilkley Half Marathon organising team, said:
"The Half Marathon has become a real fixture in the town's calendar and that's only possible because of the volunteers who give up their time to help. Whether you're directing runners, handing out water or cheering people on, you're a huge part of what makes the event special. It's a great way to meet people, have fun and support the local community."
The Half Marathon, organised by Ilkley & District Round Table, attracts runners from across Yorkshire and beyond while raising money for local good causes and encouraging people to get active. Volunteers can signup here: https://signup.com/go/zKvcfvk
The Ilkley Cycle Races, supported by Ilkley Cycling Club, have a similarly strong community spirit, bringing exciting racing into the heart of the town and attracting spectators of all ages. All opportunities for volunteers at The Ilkley Cycle Races are live here: volunteersignup.org/9KBED

Martin Peace, from the Ilkley Cycle Races organising team, said:
"The races are one of the highlights of the summer in Ilkley. They create a brilliant atmosphere and showcase everything that's great about our town. We rely on volunteers to help make it all happen and we'd love to hear from anyone who can spare a few hours. No experience is needed – just enthusiasm and a willingness to get involved."
While the two events take place on different dates, organisers say they share the same goal: bringing people together, supporting local charities and creating memorable days for participants and spectators alike.
Organisers added:
"Both events are run by local people for the benefit of the local community. Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. If you've ever enjoyed watching the races or cheering on runners, why not see the other side of the event this year and get involved?"
