Refurbishment work at Ilkley Library is set to start next month.
The library will close from Monday, 17 February for the work to start and it is expected to be closed for several weeks.
The refurbishment will include redecoration and new flooring, the installation of a new staff counter, new movable shelving to one side of the library and new computer desking. There will also be a fully accessible public toilet created and a kitchenette installed within a small office on the ground floor.
These works are being externally funded through an Arts Council England grant and CIL developer contributions, and will serve to make the library more accessible and flexible to host a range of meetings and events.
Ilkley Library is the last in a series of library refurbishments across the district funded this way and will help to host more and bigger events as part of City of Culture.
Cllr Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Healthy People and Places, said:
“This funding from Arts Council and CIL has allowed us to refurbish a number of our libraries and make them more welcoming for our customers. We are ensuring that all the work here is done sensitively and fits with the heritage and listed status of the Ilkley Library building. I look forward to seeing the changes that are going to be made.”
