Dozens of flags could be installed in Ilkley to help celebrate Yorkshire Day.
Ilkley Bid plans to fit around 40 flags on Skipton Road, Church Street and Leeds Road ahead of the celebration of Yorkshire culture in early August.
An advertising application for the flags has been submitted to Bradford Council.
The plans show that the flags would feature an image of a white rose and the Discover Ilkley logo.
The application says: “The flags would carry a welcome message and promote Discover Ilkley as a resource for Ilkley information.
“They will also enhance the attractiveness of the town in preparation for showcasing Ilkley on Yorkshire Day on August 1 – and the Celebration Weekend – which is being pulled together by a number of stakeholders as a key part of activity for Bradford 2025 – City of Culture."
Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw (Bradford Council’s portfolio holder for Regeneration, Planning and Transport) is in support of the proposal.
“The project has also been approved by Ilkley Town Council and they have contributed a grant towards the scheme costs. Discussions have taken place with many of the businesses along Skipton Rd/Church St and Leeds Road.
“The original idea for the flags was prompted by businesses in this area of the town asking for help with improving the attractiveness of the area, and drawing attention to this area of the town that has a lot of passing traffic but is often neglected with events/enhancements.
“Once planning has been obtained, we would consult with all business owners and landlords to secure permission to erect the flagpoles.”
