The CCTV system at the Grade II listed Ilkley Railway Station will be renewed and enhanced.
An application was submitted to Bradford Council by Northern Trains Limited in December 2025 with plans to bring the existing CCTV system up to current standards and technology.
Ilkley station was originally constructed in 1864, with the station listed in 1976.
Northern said in the application:
"There is no requirement to alter, extend or demolish the listed buildings at the site. The works are to renew and enhance the existing CCTV system at the station using existing locations where practicable and to introduce additional camera locations where required by current standards.
"All fixings will be discreet and will make use of existing fixing points in most instances. New fixings will be reversible."
Ilkley Town Council recommended approval subject to the condition that the Design, Access and Heritage Statement is updated to include Ilkley Station in the conclusion.
Stephen Thornton, Chair of Friends of Ilkley Rail Station, welcomes the new CCTV:
"We are delighted to support this work by Northern Rail to maintain and upgrade the existing CCTV system at our Rail and Bus station and the surrounding area. This will help us to continue to make the station a safe place for all and for it to continue to be an amazing asset for the town. Full consideration has been made to ensure this heritage site is not harmed by any of the work being carried out."
The approval notice states:
The CCTV unit installations mounted to the stonework hereby permitted shall be fixed to the mortar and not directly into the stonework.
Any required repointing to the external walls of the building shall be lime mortar, finished flush with or slightly recessed from the face of the stone. 'Ribbon' or 'strap' pointing shall not be used.
