Ilkley Town Council has said this afternoon its hopes some form of Christmas Lights Switch On event can still go ahead tomorrow [23rd Nov], despite the winds and heavy rain forecast.
A spokesperson for Ilkley Town Council posted on Facebook this afternoon:
"The lights are up (at last!) and we're hoping the switch on can go ahead tomorrow, albeit on a smaller scale than planned.
"The Christmas market will be scaled back due to the strong winds and heavy rained forecast. Some of the performances may not go ahead but we'll provide an update tomorrow.
"At present the lantern parade will still take place from 4.30pm and Santa is putting his big coat on to turn the lights on at 5pm. Santa will be in his grotto in Christchurch from 5.10pm.
"We hope to see you there. Wrap up warm!"
Bradford Markets, who run the weekly markets on The Grove, earlier said a number of its traders won't be attending due to the weather:
"Unfortunately due to the forecast of strong winds and heavy rain, many of our traders at tomorrow's Ilkley Light Switch-On event have had to cancel and will not be trading.
"A few do still plan to trade so you may see a much smaller market than planned. We apologise for the short notice, the weather is very unpredictable at this time of the year for outdoor markets and safety always comes first."
Updates will be posted on the Ilkley Town Council Facebook page.
