Friends of Ilkley Cemetery invites the public to a guided walk on Saturday 15 August which will highlight individuals buried or commemorated in Ilkley Cemetery whose lives were connected to Ilkley’s hydros history.
Meeting at the Ashlands Road entrance to Ilkley Cemetery at 2pm, the event requires no booking and is open to all who are curious about the town’s hydros heritage.
Led by local historian Denise Shillitoe, the walk offers a chance to explore how the town’s hydraulic history intertwines with its people, places, and stories. The route is expected to take about 60 to 75 minutes and will highlight hydro owners, patients, visitors, or workers

Participants should be prepared for uneven or rough paths within parts of the cemetery and wear suitable footwear. The event emphasizes safe navigation of the grounds while uncovering historical connections to the region’s water-based history.
