Bradford Council to spend over £2 million improving local school buildings

Ben Rhydding Primary will get a new boiler costing £300k under council plans

Ben Rhydding Primary and Burley Woodhead Primary both benefit from Bradford Council's plans to to spend more than £2 million to fix and improve buildings at schools across the district.

The work will make sure children and staff have safe, warm, and well-maintained places to learn and work.

The money will be used to carry out important repairs in 13 of the council-maintained schools that need them most. These major repairs include re-roofing, replacing boilers, updating electrics, and improving fire safety and are funded in their entirety by the Department for Education.

Burley Woodhead Primary with benefit from electrical rewiring costing £100,000 and Ben Rhydding Primary will get a new boiler costing £300,000.

Others schools earmarked for this year’s programme of works include:

•   St Luke’s C of E Primary – New windows and doors: £50,000
•   Hill Top C of E Primary – Roof repairs: £120,000
•   Frizinghall Primary – Roof and boiler repairs: £120,000
•   Myrtle Park Primary – Roof repairs: £150,000
•   Abbey Green Nursery – Fire safety work: £50,000
•   Keelham Primary – Fire safety work: £50,000
•   Newby Primary School – Fire safety work: £60,000
•   Wibsey Primary School – Electrical rewiring: £466,000
•   Midland Road Nursery – New boiler: £200,000
•   Steeton Primary – New boiler: £130,000
•   Lilycroft Nursery – New boiler: £40,000

Councillor Sue Duffy, Portfolio Holder for Children and Families, said:

“This is an important investment in our schools. We want every child to have the best chance to learn and grow in a safe and welcoming environment. These repairs will help make sure our school buildings are fit for the future and show our ongoing commitment to helping young people thrive in Bradford.”

The work will be planned carefully with each school to avoid disruption to lessons. Most of the repairs will take place during school holidays.”
